Weekly Newsletter (26th Jan)

26 Jan 2022 by Craig Furber

Last Saturday was hot (much like Australia Day!), so thank you so much for making the effort to join us at Moorabbin and helping with the cold water runs and packing up – so that everyone could get out of the heat.

This coming Saturday (29th January) the weather looks a little different (yikes) but we are at Moorabbin Little Aths for the last time. Here is what you need to know:

Event Program for Saturday is below
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VaUq4P1xBA2rQrMV-eKTKSVEJt6_naJ4/view

Start time is 11.30am for warm up.

Please also note:

- Grass hurdles will not be timed this week as we do not have a second timing operator available or able to transport the second set of timing gates to Moorabbin for the week). We are looking for someone to help us run timing once we are back at the track so please let Nicole know if you can assist – it’s not a complicated task – our President has apparently had a turn and was able to navigate the system without deleting data or removing files!

- Pack Up is the Last Event you were at. Please pack up the equipment on your last event – we appreciate your support in advance.

State Combined Event:

Some of your friends might be missing this week due to the State Combined Championships taking place at Lakeside Stadium. Sandy Little Aths has about 20 athletes competing and we wish them all the best in their competition. For those athletes competing the timetable can be found below.
https://lavic.com.au/event/2022-state-combined-events-championships/

The LAVIC website provides a list of other competitions your athlete(s) might be interested in. One to highlight is the Regional Track and Field Competition taking place at Duncan McKinnon over the weekend of 12/13th February. Sandy Little Aths usually has about 80 athletes participating in this event, so if you would like to know more or register please go to this link ASAP because entries are closing 30th January.

Any queries please chat to any of the Committee on Saturday…

Final word – Can you Help fill a Key Official Role for a Day on our behalf?

Little Athletics Competitions are run by volunteers. They are categorised as Key Officials (those who run the event) and General Officials (parent duties supporting the Key Officials). Being a fairly large club we usually have more than 80 athletes competing, therefore SLAC has to cover between 10-16 duties.

We are asking (well, begging really) anyone who might have a child/ren competing at Regional Track and Field to be one of our Key Officials. Training is provided and if you are interested, please contact us at sandringham@lavic.com.au

Our alternative is to pay coaches which becomes a significant cost to the club.

See you on Saturday!
