Weekly Newsletter (15th Dec)

15 Dec 2021 by Craig Furber

This week it is all about Christmas and celebrating we are. A shortened but extremely fun program has been designed for you all…yes kids, parents and coaches can all participate in the fun. Here is how it will look:

- Prizes for Christmas Dress Ups (parents you are included so pull out those amazing Christmas hats!).

- Any personal bests receive a ‘paper’ present which they can stick on their age groups Santa sack posted on the building walls at Duncan McKinnon. The

- Age Group with the most presents/pb’s wins a prize.

- Bon Bon relays – instead of a relay baton it is a relay ‘bon bon’.

- We will need parents to help with the relays, particularly at the changeover spots as many kids have not participated in this before around the whole track.

- The BBQ is free this week (Merry Xmas from us!) and NO merchandise will be sold on Friday (sorry the device is with our President isolating).

WHEN DO WE START BACK?

Our first session of 2022 is always a combined Centre event and we are at Brighton Little Aths for this. The date is Saturday 15th January (morning) and the format will be similar to a combined event. More details in the new year.

Our first session back at our home Sandringham track will hopefully be Saturday 22nd January.

Weekly Coaching:

A few have asked if we will have any coaching over the January period. We are currently looking at holding run training sessions only at either Moorabbin or Dendy Park. We will let you know and if access is available to high jump/hurdles we will keep you informed.

LAVIC Track and Field Competition:

Communications received from LAVIC promoted the the upcoming 2022 Region Track and Field Competition for Under 9+ athletes.

This is an opportunity for your athlete/s to try their best amongst others in the region (and if successful continue onto State Competition). SLAC falls into the South Region which will take place at Duncan McKinnon on Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th February.

There is a draft schedule here but it does not include times as yet:

Many of our members participate in this competition and if you would like to know more, please chat with our Committee as they have all had children participate at some point. For those who would like to know more including qualifying details please refer here:

Note on COVID from Nicole:

Following on from my communications earlier this week, I continue to do well and would like to let the community know all my family continue to test negative as do the SLAC Committee/others I associated as social contacts. I thank those for their kind communications and support – let’s continue to role model this support and care to everyone……it’s not fun when you are in it!

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and (fingers crossed) enjoyable New Year (remember last year!). Take care travelling and embrace being outdoors and free.

We look forward to seeing you on Friday and/or next year at the New Track!
