Induction Day a bright success

9 Oct 2016 by Craig Furber

On a beautiful October morning, we had a fantastic start to the season. A big thank you to Mayor James Long and Greens candidate Peter Novacco for coming along and seeing our operations up close and personal.

There were over 350 kids participating over the two sessions and we hope for all the new athletes who came along, you felt welcome and involved and we look forward to seeing you back in the weeks to come. Gecko Sports was once again a big hit and we hope that you are all telling your friends about the fun to have every weekend not just in athletics but with Gecko.

We used our new Age Group Coordinator vests for the first time which looked terrific and made finding our athletes much easier for both our parents and our committee. Anyone willing to put their hand up to assist us with this role or other roles such as starting, data entry or timing, please feel free to contact us at sandringhampresident@lavic.com.au.

We look forward to seeing many of you again next week for Program 2 and remind everyone of training on Wednesday nights at 4.30pm to 5.30pm. Two weeks time sees our Bring-a-friend round so start asking your friends who wants to come and remind them, it’s not about winning but about improving themselves and in turn getting those Zooper Doopers!

Also a reminder to all the Under 9 and above that relays are a great way to make more friends and get involved in a team environment as we begin training (Wednesday October19th) for our relay competitions. These relay competitions are Mentone Relay Open Day, which is on Sunday November 13 aimed at getting a good mix of all of our kids together to learn and the Region Relay Championships on November 19, which pits Sandringham against other Centres from Southern Metropolitan Melbourne. If you are interested, there is a link on our website to being involved or ask Shane or Suj on Saturday mornings, our Events Coordinators, for more information.

Normal competition with program 2 this week. Remember to get there at 8.15am for warm up for the Under 6-9 and 10.15am for Under 10-15.

Go Sandy!
